Greg & Maria at the Opening Ceremonies!

Premiere performing at the Medals Square

What did we do?

RME - Olympic Performances
RME was asked to perform during the Olympic Games at the Olympic Square. Over the course of the 14 days, RME was asked to do 15 shows for the participants as they entered the square. Several thousand people stopped and watched their shows, often standing in freezing temperatures in the shade for the entire show! The stage was directly next to the Olympic Medals Plaza.
It was an incredible experience. How many people can say they were able to be so involved the the Olympic games. We froze, and the security was long, but we will never forget being a part of something so much fun!

Greg and Maria - Opening Ceremonies dancing and choreography
Greg and Maria were asked to be a part of the opening ceremonies after trying out. The directors asked them additionally if they would like to help choreograph the clogging part! How incredible! Greg and Maria met with Jay Ledford and 4 other clogging directors from Utah and spent three weeks in November 2001 choreographing, and the next three months teaching it to over 200 cloggers !
The night of the Opening Ceremonies was magical. There was so much excitement in the air and we were all so excited that we completely ignored the freezing temperatures. The show was INCREDIBLE! One that we will never forget. How often do you get to dance for 3.5 billion people! It was fantastic!

How did it happen?

SLOC sent out a huge announcement asking for all talent in Utah and the West to come and tryout for the upcoming Olympic Games.
Over 23,000 people tried out for the 5,000 cast positions in the Opening and Closing ceremonies. RME tried out both older ad younger kids.
The older kids tried out in costume and hurriedly changes before learning a jazz routine that showed how fast you were able to learn as well as dance. It was very fun and they directors made it very cool as you got to walk in listening to the Olympic Fanfare. The younger kids were taught a jazz routine and later were able to show off what they do best in their freestyles.
Selections were made individually, and those that made it are below.
